The Sphinx's Green Magic

Lily sat at the dinner table, pushing the green piles around her plate with her fork. 'I don't want spinach,' she grumbled. 'It's yucky.'

Suddenly, the room filled with golden sparkles. From the sparkles appeared a magnificent sphinx, with the body of a lion and the face of a wise woman. Her eyes twinkled like stars.

'Hello, small human,' the sphinx said in a voice like gentle chimes. 'I am Seraphina, and I've come from the Land of Ancient Wonders.'

Lily's mouth hung open. 'A real sphinx? In my kitchen?'

Seraphina nodded. 'I've traveled far because I heard someone refusing the most magical food in all the world.' She gestured at Lily's plate. 'Do you know what makes spinach so special?'

Lily shook her head.

'Inside every leaf are tiny particles of magic called vitamins,' Seraphina explained. 'Vitamin A makes your eyes sparkle like mine. Vitamin K makes your bones strong like lion bones. And the magic of spinach gives you energy to run, jump, and play all day.'

'Really?' Lily peered at the green leaves.

'Sphinx secret,' Seraphina whispered, leaning close. 'My riddle power comes from eating spinach every sunrise. That's how I became the wisest creature in the desert.'

Lily picked up her fork. 'If I eat my spinach, will I become wise too?'

'Maybe not sphinx-wise,' Seraphina smiled, 'but you'll grow stronger and smarter every day. And that's its own kind of magic.'

Lily took a bite. It wasn't so bad. 'Hey, this tastes like adventure!'

Seraphina's form began to fade into sparkles again. 'Remember, little one: the best magic comes from the earth itself.' She winked. 'And spinach is just the beginning.'

As the sphinx disappeared, Lily took another bite, feeling a little stronger with each chew. She couldn't wait to see what other magical foods were waiting to be discovered.
