The Sphinx's Golden Secret

Lily loved visiting her grandmother's garden, especially at sunset when the sky turned the color of a ripe orange. But today something magical happened.

Behind the rosebushes, she discovered an old stone sphinx she'd never noticed before. As the last orange light touched its face, the sphinx blinked!

"Hello, young friend," the sphinx rumbled gently. "I've been waiting for someone with a kind heart."

Lily gasped but didn't run away. "You're alive!"

"Only during the orange hour," the sphinx explained. "My brother the Bull has fallen from his constellation and gotten lost. He's scared and hiding in the old orchard. Will you help me find him?"

"But won't he be fierce?" Lily asked, eyes wide.

"Not at all! My brother is gentle as a lamb. He just looks big and strong because he protects little creatures."

Lily nodded bravely. Together they went running through the garden, past the apple trees, until they found a magnificent golden bull curled beneath an orange tree, looking sadly at the sky.

"Brother!" The sphinx called softly.

The bull lifted his head, his eyes like warm honey. "I fell," he mooed sadly. "The other stars must be so lonely without me."

Lily had an idea. "What if we help him back up?"

Working together, Lily and the sphinx guided the bull to the highest hill. As the last orange rays disappeared, the bull began to glow. He rose into the sky like a golden balloon, finding his place among the twinkling stars.

"Thank you," the sphinx whispered, growing still again as stone. "Come back tomorrow at orange hour."

Lily waved goodbye, her heart full. Sometimes the scariest-looking things just need a little help — and a true friend is braver than they know.

That night, Lily fell asleep smiling, dreaming of orange skies, golden bulls, and the secret magic that happens every sunset.
