The Sphinx's Golden Secret
Leo found an old, frayed cable behind his grandmother's attic. It glowed with a strange orange light when he touched it. His grandmother had always said the cable was magic, but Leo never believed her—until today.
That night, the cable pulled him through his bedroom window, lifting him into the starry sky like a gentle golden rope. Down, down it carried him until he landed on golden sand beside a magnificent pyramid made of crystal that shimmered like moonlight.
"Who dares wake the ancient guardian?" A voice rumbled like gentle thunder.
Leo looked up. A sphinx sat atop the pyramid, with the body of a lion and the wise face of an elderly woman. Her eyes sparkled like constellations.
"I'm Leo," he whispered. "I think your cable brought me here."
The sphinx smiled, and the pyramid's crystal walls lit up with dancing images—children playing, dragons flying, islands floating in the sky. "I am Sienna, Keeper of Stories. For a thousand years, I've searched for someone with a pure heart to receive my gift."
She pressed a warm orange stone into Leo's palm. "This stone lets you spy into other worlds—imaginary places where dreams come alive. But you must use it to help others, never for yourself."
Leo understood. The magic wasn't for showing off. It was for sharing wonder.
"Every night," Sienna said, "use the stone to visit one dream world. Then return and tell stories to children who have forgotten how to dream. That is your mission."
Leo gripped the orange stone tight. "I promise."
The cable carried him home, and Leo woke in his bed, the orange stone still warm in his hand. That very day, he visited the hospital where his little sister was sick. Using the stone, he showed her floating islands and friendly dragons through stories. For the first time in weeks, she smiled.
Leo learned that night: the best magic isn't about power or treasures. It's about bringing joy to others. And every night when the orange stone glows, Leo knows Sienna the sphinx is watching, proud of the boy who turned a magical gift into a lifetime of kindness.
