The Sphinx's Golden Riddle

Max loved baseball more than anything. Every afternoon after school, he'd grab his glove and run to the park, tossing the ball high and catching it with a satisfying *thwack!* But Max didn't have anyone to play with. All the other kids had teams and best friends, and Max was always alone.

One evening, as Max sat by his fishbowl feeling lonely, something magical happened. His pet goldfish, Goldie, swam to the surface and spoke!

"Max, I can help you find a friend," Goldie said. "But we must go on an adventure first."

Goldie swished her golden tail, and suddenly Max's room swirled with sparkles. When the sparkles cleared, they weren't in his room anymore. They stood before a massive stone statue — the Great Sphinx of Egypt! The Sphinx's stone eyes twinkled, and its lion body stretched beneath the desert stars.

"Welcome, young Max," the Sphinx rumbled kindly. "I have guarded this magical iPhone for three thousand years. It glows with ancient magic and can answer any question — but only for someone who solves my riddle."

The Sphinx's golden eyes gleamed. "Here is your challenge: I have cities but no houses. I have mountains but no trees. I have water but no fish. What am I?"

Max thought hard. He loved maps and always studied the globe in his classroom. His eyes lit up! "A map!"

"Correct!" the Sphinx boomed, and the stone creature's serious face broke into a warm smile. "You are the first to solve my riddle in centuries. Everyone else wanted the iPhone for themselves, but you just wanted someone to play catch with."

The Sphinx passed Max the glowing iPhone. "Take it. And take my friendship too — I've been terribly lonely here all these years."

Max grinned bigger than he ever had before. "Would you like to play baseball? I can teach you!"

And that's how Max found not just one friend, but two. Goldie the magical goldfish, the Sphinx who wasn't so mysterious after all, and Max learned something wonderful: sometimes the best friends come from the most unexpected places, and kindness opens more doors than any magical device ever could.

Now every weekend, Max teaches baseball to an ancient Sphinx while Goldie cheers them on, and they all live happily ever after.
