The Sphinx's Golden Riddle
Lily loved exploring her grandmother's attic. One rainy afternoon, she found something extraordinary behind a stack of old books—a tiny stone sphinx no bigger than her hand, with emerald eyes that sparkled like stars.
"Hello there," Lily whispered, and to her surprise, the sphinx blinked!
"I've been waiting for you," said the sphinx in a voice like chiming bells. "My name is Cleo. I need your help solving a riddle to wake my friend."
Lily's eyes widened. "A riddle? I love riddles!"
Cleo smiled. "The answer lies in three magical creatures. First, find the creature that swims in circles but never goes anywhere, yet holds memories in its shimmering scales."
Lily gasped. "A goldfish!" She rushed to her room where her pet goldfish, Finny, swam in his bowl. Finny blew a bubble that transformed into a glowing golden key.
"Wonderful!" Cleo cheered. "Now, find the creature that appears asleep but dances when the moon is full, moving like no other."
Lily thought hard. Then she remembered the garden statue at midnight—how the stone bull seemed to shuffle in a funny, jerky way during full moons, almost like it was doing a zombie dance!
"The bull in the garden!" Lily exclaimed. "But he's not scary—he's just lonely!"
Together, Lily and Cleo hurried to the garden. Under the full moon, the stone bull was indeed shuffling in a clumsy zombie-like dance, looking sad and forgotten.
"Hello, Mr. Bull," Lily said gently. "Would you like to dance with us?"
The bull's stone eyes softened. He nodded, and suddenly, all three began to dance—Lily spinning, Cleo swaying, and the bull doing his funny zombie shuffle.
Golden light swirled around them. The bull's stone fell away, revealing a magnificent golden creature beneath.
"Thank you," the bull said in a warm voice. "I was cursed to dance alone for a hundred years. Your friendship broke the spell."
From that night on, Lily, Cleo the sphinx, and Benny the bull had wonderful adventures. Finny the goldfish would often join them too, swimming through the air in a magical bubble. And Lily learned that sometimes the scariest-looking creatures just need a friend, and that kindness can break even the oldest spells.
