The Sphinx's Golden Papaya
Lily was walking through the park with her dog Barnaby when something sparkly in the grass caught her eye. It was an old purple hat with a golden feather. She picked it up and placed it on her head.
"Wow!" Lily gasped as the world around her began to spin like a merry-go-round. When everything stopped, she and Barnaby were standing in a desert of golden sand.
Before them stood a magnificent sphinx with the body of a lion and the head of a wise woman. The sphinx's eyes twinkled like stars.
"Welcome, young traveler," the sphinx spoke in a voice like gentle chimes. "I have guarded the Golden Papaya for a thousand years. Only someone with a pure heart may find it."
"A papaya?" Lily asked. "But those are just fruits!"
"Not this one," the sphinx smiled. "The Golden Papaya grants one wish to those who are kind and brave. But first, you must answer my riddle."
Barnaby wagged his tail excitedly as the sphinx asked: "What has four legs in the morning, two legs at noon, and three legs in the evening?"
Lily thought hard. She remembered this riddle from her favorite storybook. "A person!" she exclaimed. "Babies crawl on four legs, grown-ups walk on two, and elderly people use a cane!"
"Correct!" The sphinx clapped her paws together. A beautiful papaya tree appeared, and on its highest branch grew a single golden papaya that glowed like sunshine.
The sphinx plucked it and handed it to Lily. "What is your wish?"
Lily looked at Barnaby, then at the sphinx. "I wish for everyone in the world to have enough food to eat."
The sphinx's eyes filled with happy tears. "You have chosen wisely. Your kindness will feed many."
Suddenly, Lily was back in the park, the purple hat still on her head. In her hand, she held seeds from the golden papaya—seeds that would grow into magical fruit trees wherever they were planted.
Barnaby barked happily, and Lily knew her adventure had just begun.
