The Sphinx's Golden Hair
Lily loved playing padel in the park with her dad. The bright blue ball would bounce, and her racket would go *thwack*! But today, while chasing a ball near the old stone wall, she noticed something strange.
A tiny sphinx no bigger than a kitten sat on the wall. It had the body of a cat and the wings of a hummingbird, shimmering like moonlight.
"You found my ball!" Lily cried. The sphinx tilted its head.
"Not a ball, child," it spoke in a voice like wind chimes. "This is a star that fell from my mane."
Lily looked closer. It wasn't a ball at all — it glowed softly and felt warm in her hand.
"I'm Solara," said the sphinx. "I guard the Wall of Wishes. But I'm losing my magic hair, one strand at a time. Without it, I can't fly home to the Cloud Kingdom."
Lily gasped. "Is that why you're stuck here?"
Solara nodded sadly. A golden hair floated from her lion-like mane and vanished.
Suddenly, Lily had an idea. "What if you hold onto my padel racket? I can give you a lift!"
She propped the racket against the wall. Solara climbed onto the handle, her tiny claws gripping tight.
"Hold your hair back!" Lily called, and swung the racket gently. *Whoosh!*
It worked! Solara's golden mane streamed behind her like a comet's tail.
"Higher!" cried the sphinx. "I see the Cloud Kingdom!"
Lily pushed harder. The racket bent. Her arms shook. But she didn't give up.
*SNAP!*
The racket broke, sending Solara soaring upward — but Lily fell back, scraping her knee.
Solara caught herself on a cloud and looked down. "You sacrificed your racket for me?"
Lily nodded, fighting tears. It was her favorite racket.
The sphinx smiled. A single golden hair drifted down and landed in Lily's palm. Where it touched, flowers sprouted.
"True kindness is the strongest magic," Solara called. "Whenever you need me, just blow on this hair, and I'll hear you."
She flew into the clouds, leaving trails of sparkles.
Lily walked home, limping but happy. In her pocket glowed the golden hair — the start of many adventures to come.
And that's how Lily learned: helping others, even when it costs you something, is the bravest thing you can do.
