The Sphinx's Golden Hair
Lily loved storms. She would press her nose against the window glass, watching the sky dance with light. But one night, she saw something impossible — a creature floating among the clouds, with the body of a lion and the head of a wise person. A sphinx!
The sphinx looked sad. Her beautiful golden hair, usually flowing like a river of sunlight, hung limp and dull. Without her hair's magical glow, she couldn't create lightning to wake up the stars for the night sky.
Lily snuck outside and called up, "What's wrong?"
"My hair lost its sparkle," the sphinx sighed, floating down. "Only the tear of a true friend can restore its shine. But I've been alone in the clouds for so very long."
From the forest emerged a giant bear. Lily trembled, but the bear only smiled gently. "I've watched you from below," the bear told the sphinx. "You paint the sky with lightning every night. It's beautiful."
The sphinx's eyes widened. "You've seen me?"
"Every single night," said the bear. "Your lightning helps me find berries in the dark. It guides my cubs home. It makes the forest sparkle like magic."
A single tear rolled down the sphinx's cheek, landing on her golden hair.
*ZAP!*
Her hair burst into dazzling light, shooting lightning across the sky in all the colors of the rainbow. The stars blinked awake, twinkling with joy.
"Thank you both," the sphinx beamed. "I thought I was alone, but I've had friends all along."
From that night on, Lily, the sphinx, and the bear watched storms together. And every time lightning flashed, Lily knew it was the sphinx's way of saying hello to her friends below.
Because even the most magical creatures need friends — and sometimes, they're closer than you think.
