The Sphinx's Golden Game

Lila and Sam were playing padel at the park when the ball bounced over the fence into the sandy garden beyond. They ran after it, laughing in the sunshine.

"Wait!" Lila whispered, pointing to the ground. "Look!"

Half-buried in the sand lay a tiny golden pyramid, no bigger than Sam's palm. As Lila brushed away the sand, the pyramid began to glow. A tiny sphinx no larger than a hamster materialized atop it, with sparkling emerald eyes and wings like morning dew.

"Greetings, young friends," the sphinx spoke in a voice like wind chimes. "I am Cleo, guardian of the Golden Pyramid. I've been waiting for someone kind enough to find me."

Sam's eyes widened. "Are you magical?"

"Very," Cleo replied. "But my magic only works for those who help others. Tell me, what game were you playing?"

"Padel!" Lila explained. "It's like tennis but with a smaller court and special walls."

Cleo's emerald eyes twinkled. "I have a challenge. If you can teach someone new to play padel today, I'll grant you one wish. But it must be someone who needs a friend."

Lila and Sam looked toward the bench where new girl Maya sat alone every day, watching them play.

"Maya!" Lila called. "Want to learn padel?"

Maya's face lit up. "Really?"

The three played until sunset, laughing as Maya hit her first winner. When the sun dipped below the horizon, Cleo reappeared, now growing to the size of a cat.

"You succeeded beautifully," the sphinx purred. "Your wish?"

Lila and Sam looked at each other, then at Maya, who was finally smiling.

"We wish that Maya always has someone to play with," Sam said.

Celo's pyramid flashed golden light. "Wise choice. Friendship is the greatest magic of all."

The pyramid vanished into sparkles, and from that day on, the three were inseparable. Sometimes, when the sun hit the garden just right, they'd see a tiny sphinx watching, her emerald eyes glowing with approval.
