The Sphinx's Golden Friend
In the middle of the golden desert, where the sand sparkled like sugar, there lived a very lonely sphinx. She had the body of a lion and the head of a wise person, with beautiful brown hair that blew in the desert wind.
Every day, the sphinx sat very still on her stone pedestal, watching travelers pass by. But nobody ever stopped to say hello. They were too afraid of her riddles.
"If only I had a friend," she sighed, her long hair fluttering in the hot breeze.
One day, something magical happened. A little girl carrying a glass bowl stopped right in front of the sphinx. Inside the bowl swam the most beautiful goldfish the sphinx had ever seen. His scales were orange like sunset, and he swam in circles, making little ripples in the water.
"Hello there," said the girl with a smile. "My name is Lily. This is Bubbles."
The sphinx couldn't believe it! Someone was talking to her!
"I've been waiting so long for a friend," said the sphinx happily. "I'm so lonely sitting here all by myself."
Lily looked at the sphinx with kind eyes. "Bubbles was lonely too. He lived all alone in a tiny pond before I found him. Now we're best friends!"
The sphinx had an idea. "What if Bubbles could visit me sometimes? I could tell him stories, and he could swim in his bowl while I sit on my pedestal. Then neither of us would be lonely!"
Lily's face lit up. "That's a wonderful idea!"
And so it was. Every day, Lily brought Bubbles to visit the sphinx. The sphinx told them stories about ancient Egypt and the stars above. Bubbles would splash happily in his water, and the sphinx felt her heart grow warm.
But one hot afternoon, the water in Bubbles' bowl began to disappear under the burning sun. The little goldfish was swimming in only a tiny bit of water!
"Oh no!" cried Lily. "Bubbles needs cool water right away!"
The sphinx thought quickly. She remembered something special about her pedestal. Using her strong lion legs, she pushed aside the stone slab, revealing a hidden spring of cool, fresh water underneath!
"Bubbles can swim here!" said the sphinx proudly.
Bubbles dove into the magical spring, swimming happily. From that day on, the sphinx, Lily, and Bubbles were the best of friends. The sphinx learned that friendship is like water—it nourishes your heart and makes everything grow.
And the lonely sphinx? She was never lonely again.
