The Sphinx's Golden Cable
Lily loved her dad's old iPhone. It didn't make calls anymore, but she kept it in her treasure box because it glowed purple whenever she opened the box.
One rainy afternoon, while examining the strange purple light, Lily found something wrapped around her favorite stuffed unicorn's mane — a sparkly golden cable she'd never seen before. It seemed to hum.
"Curious," she whispered.
The cable uncurled itself and wiggled toward the iPhone. SNAP! The golden end plugged into the phone's charging port. The screen lit up with swirling stars, and a voice echoed through the room.
"Finally! Someone found my cable!"
Lily gasped as a small sphinx shimmered into existence on her desk. The creature had the body of a fluffy lion and wings like a hummingbird. But what made Lily's eyes go wide was the sphinx's magnificent blue hair — long, flowing locks that sparkled like sapphires.
"I'm Cleo," the sphinx said, landing softly on a stack of books. "I've been trapped in your phone for three hundred years. My cable was the only way out!"
"How did you get in there?" Lily asked.
Cleo sighed, her blue hair cascading over her lion shoulders. "I answered a riddle incorrectly. The Wise Sphinx of the Web World punished me by banishing me into a human device. But you — you found my magical hair-infused cable!"
Lily's eyes widened. "Your hair is in the cable?"
"One strand of my enchanted hair," Cleo explained proudly. "It's the only thing that can bridge worlds. Now I can finally go home! But..." Cleo looked at Lily with worried amber eyes. "I need someone brave to come with me. My riddle-answering skills are still terrible."
Lily's heart thumped with excitement. "I'm good at riddles! My grandpa taught me all kinds."
Cleo's wings fluttered. "Then grab my paw!"
Together, they stepped through the iPhone screen into a world made of floating islands connected by bridges of light. The Web World was beautiful — trees that grew storybooks, rivers of lemonade, and clouds that whispered secrets.
At the Temple of Riddles, the Wise Sphinx appeared. "To return home, you must answer this: I have cities, but no houses. I have mountains, but no trees. I have water, but no fish. What am I?"
Lily thought hard. Cities with no houses... mountains without trees...
"A MAP!" she shouted.
The Wise Sphinx smiled. "Correct. You are wise and brave, little one. And you, Cleo — you have learned that asking for help makes you stronger, not weaker."
Cleo's blue hair glowed brighter than ever as she bowed her head. "I understand now, Wise One. Friendship is the greatest magic of all."
Back in her room, Lily found the golden cable coiled neatly on her desk. When she touched it, she felt warm tingles — a reminder that somewhere, in a world beyond screens, a sphinx with sapphire hair was her friend forever.
And every time Lily saw her iPhone, she smiled, knowing that magic could be found in the most unexpected places — even in old phones and mysterious cables.
