The Sphinx's Golden Cable
Leo loved exploring the dusty attic of his grandmother's old house. Rain drummed on the roof as he sifted through boxes of treasures—photographs, strange trinkets, and things that smelled like adventure.
Then something shiny caught his eye. It was an ancient golden cable, glinting in the dim light. It seemed to hum with mysterious energy, and when Leo touched it, warm tingles rushed up his fingers.
"Who are you?" a voice rumbled softly.
Leo jumped! Before him, shimmering like moonlight, appeared a magnificent sphinx. She had the body of a golden lion and the face of a wise woman with kind, twinkling eyes.
"I'm Leo," he whispered, "but... you can't be real!"
"Oh, but I am," the sphinx smiled. "I've been waiting for someone brave enough to find my golden cable. It connects your world to my home—a magical pyramid where lost dreams go."
"Lost dreams?" Leo asked, fascinated.
"Dreams that children forget when they grow too busy. But my pyramid is fading! Its magic needs new dreams to stay bright. Will you come with me and share yours?"
Leo's heart raced. This was the adventure he'd always imagined! He gripped the cable, and suddenly he was soaring through starlight, tumbling gently into a pyramid glowing with every color imaginable.
Inside were floating crystals—each holding a forgotten dream. Leo saw wishes for flying, for talking to animals, for discovering new worlds.
"What's YOUR dream, Leo?" the sphinx asked gently.
Leo thought hard. "I want to be an explorer who helps people. Like you're helping the lost dreams."
The sphinx beamed. "That is a wonderful dream!" She touched his forehead, and Leo felt warmth spreading through him. "Your dream is now part of the pyramid's magic."
But as Leo gripped the cable to return home, he paused. "My cousin Mia stopped dreaming. She's too worried about being perfect. Can I bring her here?"
The sphinx's eyes sparkled. "That is the best kind of adventure—helping someone remember their magic."
Leo woke up in the attic, the golden cable still warm in his hand. Outside, rain still fell, but everything looked different now. The world was full of magic, waiting for brave hearts to find it.
And Leo knew exactly who needed an adventure next.
Some dreams are too wonderful to keep to yourself.
