The Sphinx's Golden Baseball

Ten-year-old Leo knelt in his dusty attic, fingers tracing the thick black cable wrapped around an old wooden box. Inside rested a baseball that shimmered like liquid sunshine.

"What are you?" Leo whispered, tapping the ball.

*FLASH!* The cable uncoiled like a snake, lifting Leo into a whirlwind of golden light. When his sneakers touched ground again, endless desert stretched in every direction. Before him rose a giant pyramid, its stones glowing purple under three moons.

A sphinx with emerald eyes and feathers like rainbow sequins padded forward. "Welcome, little one. I am Cleo, guardian of the Pyramid of Dreams."

Leo's knees trembled, but he straightened his shoulders. "I-I'm Leo. I found a magic baseball."

Celo laughed, sounding like wind chimes. "That's no ordinary baseball! It's a Dream Ball—only the bravest children can awaken it. Come!"

She led him inside the pyramid, where walls sparkled with moving pictures. Baseballs flew through starry skies. Children played tag with comets. Mermaids swam through clouds.

They reached a vast chamber filled with a crystal swimming pool that glowed from within. "This is the Pool of Impossible Things," Cleo explained. "Here, you can swim through air, dance on water, and turn wishes into reality. But first, you must solve my riddle."

Leo nodded bravely.

"I fly when hit, but have no wings. I love grass but have no roots. What am I?"

"A baseball!" Leo shouted.

Cleo's emerald eyes sparkled. "Correct! Now, what's your impossible wish?"

Leo thought of his grandpa, who couldn't play baseball anymore because of his wheelchair. "I wish Grandpa could play baseball with me again."

The sphinx dipped her paw into the glowing swimming pool. Three bubbles floated out and popped into a beautiful silver cable that curled around Leo's wrist like a bracelet.

"Take this Dream Cable home," Cleo said. "Touch your magic baseball, and Grandpa will fly like he has wings whenever you play catch together."

Leo hugged the sphinx's warm, fuzzy neck. "Thank you!"

*FLASH!* He was back in his attic, cable bracelet gleaming on his wrist.

That afternoon, Leo and his grandpa played the most magical game of catch ever. And every night, Leo touched his Dream Baseball, knowing Cleo was watching from her pyramid, ready to take him on his next adventure.

The magic cable on his wrist whispered a promise: impossible wishes are just dreams waiting for brave hearts to make them real.
