The Sphinx's Garden Secret

Lily loved running through the meadow behind her house every morning. Her bare feet pattered against the soft grass as she raced the butterflies and jumped over babbling brooks. But today was different. Today she discovered something magical.

Near the old stone wall, where wildflowers grew in tangled bunches, Lily found a tiny sphinx no bigger than a kitten. The creature had emerald-green wings and golden fur, with wise amber eyes that twinkled like stars.

"Please help!" squeaked the little sphinx. "My garden is dying!"

Lily followed the winged creature through a hidden gap in the wall. There, in a secret courtyard, grew the most beautiful plants she'd ever seen—but they were drooping sadly.

"They need magic water from the Crystal Spring," explained the sphinx. "But I'm too small to swim across the deep pool to reach it."

Lily nodded bravely. She could swim!

Together they climbed mossy stairs until they reached a grotto filled with shimmering blue water. Lily dove in, her strokes strong and sure. The water felt like liquid silver against her skin. Deep beneath the surface, she found a glowing spring bubbling with rainbow-colored water.

She filled a special flask the sphinx had given her, then swam back to the surface.

But something was wrong. The water's magic was fading! "It needs fresh spinach to reactivate the spell!" cried the sphinx.

Lily remembered the patch of leafy greens growing near her house. She went running back, her heart pounding, and gathered the biggest, greenest leaves she could find.

When she returned, the sphinx crumbled the spinach into the magic water. The mixture turned bright golden and began to sparkle! Together, they watered every plant in the secret garden.

One by one, the flowers perked up. Leaves uncurled. Blossoms burst open in brilliant colors—roses, lilies, sunflowers, and flowers Lily had never seen before, some glowing with their own inner light.

The sphinx did a happy flip in the air. "You saved my garden!" she cheered. "And now, you shall always have a friend here."

From that day on, Lily visited her magical friend often. She learned that kindness and courage could grow the most beautiful gardens—and the truest friendships.
