The Sphinx's Baseball Game

Leo was running through the park, his cleats crunching on the gravel path. He was late for baseball practice again! The coach would be mad, but Leo had stopped to watch a beautiful butterfly.

Suddenly, something shimmered near the old stone pyramid in the center of the park. It looked like a giant golden cat with the head of a person! Leo gasped. It was a sphinx!

"You are running fast, young one," the sphinx spoke in a voice like wind chimes. "But are you running toward something important, or just running away?" Leo had never seen a magical creature before! His heart pounded with excitement.

"I'm running to baseball practice!" Leo said. "But... I guess I was also running away from being late again."

The sphinx's golden eyes twinkled. "I have guarded this pyramid for a thousand years. I have seen many children running through this park, but you are the first who stopped to watch a butterfly. That makes you special."

She pawed at something behind the ancient stone pyramid. It was a baseball! But this ball glowed with rainbow light. "Catch!" the sphinx called, and tossed it to Leo.

Leo caught it easily. The ball felt warm in his hands, like sunshine. "What's special about this baseball?" he asked.

"This ball teaches three lessons," the sphinx said. "First: always take time to notice beauty, like your butterfly. Second: running fast matters less than running toward what matters. And third..." She paused. "True magic happens when you share it with friends."

Leo smiled. "My teammates are waiting! Maybe we could all play with your magic baseball?"

The sphinx beamed. "Now you understand the most important lesson! Go, Leo. But remember to keep your eyes open for butterflies."

Leo ran to the field, faster than ever before. When he showed his team the glowing baseball, they couldn't believe it! That day, they played the most magical game ever. And Leo was never late to practice again — mostly because he started arriving early to watch for butterflies near the pyramid.
