The Sphinx's Baseball Game

Leo loved his old blue hat more than anything. It had belonged to his grandfather, and Leo wore it everywhere he went. One hot summer afternoon, he was playing baseball in the park when something magical happened.

Leo hit the ball so high it disappeared into the clouds! He ran to find it, following it all the way to the edge of the park where he'd never explored before. There, sitting under a giant palm tree, was a stone sphinx with the head of a lion and the body of a person.

The sphinx's eyes twinkled like stars. 'I've been waiting for someone like you,' it rumbled gently. 'I haven't played baseball in thousands of years.'

Leo's mouth dropped open. 'You know baseball?'

The sphinx nodded. 'Before I became a guardian of secrets, I was the greatest pitcher in all of ancient Egypt.'

Leo's heart raced with excitement. 'Want to play catch?'

For hours they played under the palm tree. The sphinx taught Leo how to pitch like the pharaohs, and Leo taught the sphinx how modern kids played baseball. The sphinx had forgotten how much fun it was to laugh and run and play.

As the sun began to set, the sphinx smiled. 'You've reminded me that even ancient guardians need joy and friendship. Thank you, young one.'

The sphinx pressed its paw into Leo's palm, leaving a small golden mark shaped like a pyramid. 'Whenever you need courage, touch this mark and remember our game.'

Leo waved goodbye and ran home, his blue hat still on his head, his heart full of magic and friendship. He knew he would never forget the day he played baseball with a sphinx.
