The Sphinx of Silver Beach
Lily loved summer days at Silver Beach. The **water** sparkled like diamonds under the bright sun, and she spent hours **swimming** in the gentle waves with her friends. But today, something magical happened.
While building a sandcastle near the rocks, Lily spotted something strange. A tiny creature with lion paws, eagle wings, and a human face peeked out from behind a shell. It was a miniature **sphinx**, no bigger than her hand!
"Hello there," Lily whispered, pulling out her **iPhone** to take a picture. But the sphinx shook its head sadly.
"Please don't," it squeaked. "I'm hiding."
"From what?" Lily asked, lowering her phone.
"From the sand **zombie**!" The sphinx trembled. "He stomps along the beach every sunset, groaning and looking for magical creatures like me."
Lily had heard about the sand zombie—a local legend about a grumpy creature who emerged at dusk. Everyone said he was scary.
"Wait here," Lily said gently.
That evening, Lily returned to the beach. Sure enough, a lumpy figure shuffled through the sand, making soft grumbling sounds. But instead of running away, Lily walked toward him.
"Hello?"
The figure stopped. It was just an old man in a floppy hat, picking up litter with a groan. "Oh, hello, little one. Just cleaning up the beach before sunset."
Lily smiled. "My new friend is scared of you. She thinks you're a zombie."
The man laughed. "I'm Mr. Higgins! I've patrolled this beach for thirty years. Tell your friend she's safe with me."
When Lily introduced the sphinx to Mr. Higgins, the little creature flew onto his shoulder and purred like a kitten. They became the unlikeliest of friends, and every sunset, the three of them would clean the beach together.
Lily learned that sometimes, the things we fear aren't scary at all. Sometimes, they're just lonely people waiting for a friend. And that was the real magic of Silver Beach.
