The Sphinx in the Swimming Pool

Lily loved summer evenings at her grandmother's house. The best part was the old swimming pool hidden behind a giant palm tree. Its leaves whispered secrets in the wind, and at sunset, they turned golden like spilled honey.

One night, Lily was swimming alone under the stars. She did backflips and pretended she was a mermaid exploring an underwater kingdom. Suddenly, something shiny at the bottom of the pool caught her eye. She dove deep and discovered… an iPhone?

Impossible! The pool had been empty for weeks. Yet there it was—a smooth, black phone glowing with mysterious purple light. Lily's heart raced as she fished it out.

The screen flickered to life, showing not apps or games, but the face of a sphinx! The magical creature had emerald eyes and a knowing smile.

"Hello, brave swimmer," the sphinx spoke. "I've been waiting for someone imaginative enough to find me."

Lily gasped. "You're real?"

"As real as your dreams," the sphinx rumbled. "I have three treasures for you, but first you must solve my riddle: What has hands but cannot clap?"

Lily thought hard, her mind racing like a dolphin in the sea. Then it clicked! "A clock!"

"Correct!" The sphinx beamed. "Your prizes: curiosity for discovering new worlds, courage for diving into the unknown, and kindness to share magic with others."

The phone transformed into three glowing marbles that Lily caught in her palm. When she looked up, the sphinx was gone. But from that night on, whenever Lily swam under the stars, she felt magical currents swirling around her, reminding her that the most wonderful discoveries come from following your curiosity—just like she had.

And sometimes, if she looked very carefully at the ripples in the water, she could still see the sphinx winking back at her.
