The Sphinx at the Padel Court

Lily loved playing spy. Every day after school, she'd sneak around her backyard with her pretend magnifying glass, searching for clues and mysteries. One Tuesday, while creeping past the community center, she heard something magical.

"You're quite a little spy," a voice purred from behind the padel court. "But can you solve my riddle?"

Lily froze. There, perched on top of the padel net, sat a small golden sphinx no bigger than a cat, with tiny wings and emerald eyes that twinkled like stars.

"I'm Sphina," the creature said. "I've been watching you. You're curious and brave — perfect qualities for a friend."

Lily's heart raced with excitement. A real sphinx! And it wanted to be friends!

"I'll be your friend!" Lily said. "What's your riddle?"

Sphina smiled mysteriously. "What's green and leafy, makes your muscles strong, but tastes much better in magical stories?"

Lily thought hard. She wrinkled her nose. "Spinach? But spinach is yucky in real life!"

"Exactly!" Sphina laughed, sprinkling golden dust that made the padel court shimmer. "But in my magic riddles, spinach becomes the most delicious treat in the world. The lesson is this: things aren't always what they seem. When you approach everything with curiosity and an open mind — like a true spy — even spinach can become an adventure."

From that day on, Lily and Sphina were best friends. They played riddles together, explored magical worlds hidden in ordinary places, and learned that the best mysteries are the ones you solve with your heart.

And sometimes, just sometimes, when no one was looking, Lily could swear her lunchtime spinach actually tasted a little bit like magic.
