The Sphinx at Starlight Pool

Lily loved the midnight hour, when the moon hung low and the swimming pool in her backyard turned into liquid silver. Her parents said she was dreaming, but Lily knew better.

One starry night, she peeked through her window and gasped. A magnificent creature sat by the pool—golden fur shimmering, wings folded, and the face of a wise woman. A sphinx!

"I am Cleo," the sphinx spoke softly. "I travel through starlight to visit your world's magical waters."

Lily's eyes widened. "You're real!"

Cleo smiled. "Magic is real for those who believe. But tonight, I need help. The Great Bull constellation has faded from my sky. Without his strength, my people forget courage."

"How can I help?" Lily asked, her heart pounding with adventure.

"You have something I need," Cleo said. "That old cable you found—the one humming with ancient energy."

Lily remembered the golden cable she'd discovered buried in the garden. It pulsed with warmth.

"The cable once connected our worlds," Cleo explained. "If you hold it while standing in the pool under the Bull's constellation, you'll pull his light back into my sky."

Lily grabbed the cable and slipped into the pool. The water felt like starlight—cool and tingling. She looked up. The Bull constellation was there, faint and flickering.

She held the cable high. Golden light burst forth, streaming upward like a bridge of stars. The Bull blazed brighter, his horns glowing fierce and proud.

"Thank you, brave friend," Cleo called. "Remember: true courage isn't about being fearless. It's about doing what's right even when you're afraid."

Lily beamed as the sphinx dissolved into sparkles. The next morning, the cable was gone—but whenever Lily looked at the stars, the Great Bull seemed to wink, as if sharing a wonderful secret.

And sometimes, if she swam at midnight, she could still feel the magic—warm and tingling, like starlight in her heart.
