The Sphinx and the Swimming Bull

Lily loved exploring the mysterious forest behind her house. One sunny afternoon, she discovered a hidden path she'd never seen before. The mossy stones were arranged like stepping stones, leading deeper into the woods than she'd ever dared to go.

Curious and brave, Lily followed the path until she reached a sparkling lake. But this wasn't just any lake — the water shimmered with rainbow colors, and ancient stone pillars rose from its surface.

Resting on the largest pillar was the most magnificent creature Lily had ever seen. It had the body of a powerful bull with gleaming golden fur, but its face was wise and mysterious, like the sphinxes she'd seen in her storybooks.

"Hello, little one," the sphinx-bull said in a voice as warm as honey. "I've been waiting for a true friend."

Lily's eyes widened. "You can talk?"

"All magical creatures can talk to those with pure hearts," the sphinx-bull replied. "I am Orion, guardian of this magical lake. For one hundred years, I've been lonely here. Will you be my friend?"

"Yes!" Lily exclaimed without hesitation.

Orion smiled. "Then you must swim with me in the magic waters. Only true friends may swim together in this lake."

Lily had never loved swimming more than she did in that magical lake. The water felt like soft silk against her skin, and tiny glowing fish swam alongside her. Orion showed her how to dive deep to find beautiful crystals that held memories of the ancient world.

"This is where all true friends meet," Orion explained as they floated on their backs, watching the first stars appear above. "The magic of friendship makes everything possible — even a sphinx and a human child swimming together."

Every day after school, Lily returned to swim with Orion. They explored underwater caves filled with singing mermaids, played tag with the gentle water spirits, and Orion taught Lily how to speak with forest animals.

One day, Orion had a special gift for Lily. He pressed his golden forehead against hers, and suddenly, Lily could understand all the languages of the magical creatures in the forest.

"Now you can help others find friendship too," Orion said. "Remember, Lily — the most powerful magic is kindness, and the greatest treasure is a true friend."

Lily hugged Orion's strong neck. "I'll never forget you, my friend."

And she never did. Every time she saw someone lonely or sad, Lily would smile and say hello, starting new friendships that sparkled like the magic waters of her secret lake.
