The Sphinx and the Sunshine Palm

Lily discovered the magical palm tree on the hottest day of summer. Its leaves shimmered like silver coins, and coconuts glowed with tiny, dancing lights. But the most surprising thing was what sat beneath it—a small stone sphinx no bigger than a kitten, with wings folded like a sleeping butterfly.

"Hello?" Lily whispered, kneeling in the soft sand.

The sphinx opened one golden eye. "I haven't had a visitor in three hundred years."

"Why not?"

"Because I've forgotten my riddles," the sphinx sighed, her voice like wind through ancient temples. "A sphinx who can't riddle is just a statue with wings."

Lily's heart squeezed with sadness. She noticed the sphinx's stone was cracking and dull.

That's when she saw them—tiny glowing fruits hanging from the silver palm above them. They pulsed with warmth, like captured sunshine.

"What are those?" Lily asked.

"Sunshine vitamins," said the sphinx. "The magical palm makes them every morning at dawn. They're pure drops of joy, courage, and wonder. But I can't reach them anymore."

Lily understood. The sphinx needed sunshine vitamins to feel magical again.

Climbing carefully, Lily gathered three glowing fruits—one copper, one gold, one silver. She held them to the sphinx's lips.

"Eat these," she said. "They'll help you remember."

The sphinx ate slowly. Stone turned to warm fur. Wings stretched. Golden eyes brightened.

"I remember!" the sphinx cried. "My riddle: What grows stronger when you give it away?"

Lily thought. Then she smiled. "Friendship?"

"Correct!" The sphinx flew up, leaving sparkles like tiny stars. "You solved my riddle AND saved me. You're a true guardian of magic."

Every day after that, Lily returned. The sphinx taught her riddles, and Lily helped collect sunshine vitamins for other forgotten magical creatures who needed them.

Because sometimes, the smallest act of kindness can make the oldest magic come alive again.
