The Sphinx and the Sunshine Orange

Lila loved exploring her grandmother's attic, especially on rainy afternoons. That's where she found it—a dusty old book with a golden sphinx on the cover. When she opened it, the pages began to glow, and she tumbled right inside!

She landed in a desert where the sand sparkled like tiny jewels. Before her stood a magnificent sphinx with emerald eyes and wings of sunset gold.

"Welcome, little one," the sphinx purred gently. "I've been waiting for someone kind enough to solve my riddle."

Lila's heart fluttered. "I'll try!"

"What shines like the sun, tastes like sunshine, and holds the power to make sick children well again?"

Lila thought hard. She remembered her grandmother saying that eating fruit kept you healthy. "Is it... an orange?"

The sphinx's wings fluttered with joy. "Correct! But not just any orange." She revealed a hidden cave filled with trees bearing the most glowing oranges Lila had ever seen. "These are Sunshine Oranges. Each one contains a special vitamin that gives children the gift of health and happiness."

But then the sphinx looked sad. "The problem is, I can't leave this desert to deliver them to the children who need them most."

Lila's eyes widened. "I can help!" She filled her basket with the magical oranges.

The sphinx smiled warmly. "Take them to the children's hospital in your world. But remember—the magic only works when shared freely."

When Lila returned home, she rushed to the hospital where her friend Tom was sick. She gave him an orange, and as he ate it, color returned to his cheeks. He laughed for the first time in weeks!

Lila shared all the oranges, and every child who ate one got better. The sphinx had taught her an important lesson: true magic isn't about power—it's about kindness and sharing.

Sometimes now, when Lila eats an ordinary orange, she thinks of her sphinx friend and smiles, knowing that the real magic was in her heart all along.
