The Sphinx and the Storm Bull
Lily loved exploring the woods behind her house. One rainy afternoon, she saw something strange—a golden sphinx perched on a mossy rock, watching her with kind eyes.
"Hello, young friend," the sphinx rumbled softly. "I've been waiting for someone brave enough to help."
Lily stepped closer, rain dripping from her yellow raincoat. "Help with what?"
"My friend Boris—a bull made of storm clouds—has lost his lightning bolt! Without it, he can't make rain for the thirsty flowers."
Lily's eyes widened. A storm cloud bull? This was the most amazing adventure ever!
The sphinx nodded toward a dark cave. "Boris is hiding inside. He's sad and scared. Will you help him?"
"Yes!" Lily cried, running toward the cave without thinking twice.
Inside, she found Boris—a gentle giant with swirling gray clouds for fur and eyes that flashed like tiny stars. He looked so lonely.
"I lost my lightning," Boris mooed sadly. "It fell into the underground river when I was swimming yesterday."
Lily's heart went out to him. "Don't worry! I'll help you find it."
But there was a problem. The river was deep and dark, and Lily didn't have her swimsuit.
"Hold on!" The sphinx appeared at the cave entrance. With a wave of her paw, she made the water glow with soft light. Now Lily could see everything.
Lily spotted something shiny at the bottom of the river. It was the lightning bolt, sparkling like a captured star!
She couldn't swim there... but wait! Lily had an idea.
"Boris, can you make the water part like you do when making rain?"
The bull's eyes brightened. He concentrated, swishing his cloud tail. A gentle wind swirled through the cave, and the river water separated, leaving a dry path to the bottom.
Lily skipped down, grabbed the lightning bolt—it was warm and tingled in her hand—and carried it back up.
Boris nudged her gently with his soft nose. "Thank you, friend." As soon as he touched the lightning bolt, his cloud fur began to shimmer with tiny sparks of joy.
That afternoon, Lily watched from her window as the gentlest rain fell, making all the flowers dance. She knew Boris was up there, smiling down.
Sometimes, the best adventures happen when you least expect them—and the strongest magic is friendship.
