The Sphinx and the Sleepy Zombie

Lily loved exploring her grandmother's garden, especially the old stone pool behind the roses. One hot afternoon, she noticed something strange shimmering in the water's reflection. A giant sphinx sat beside the pool, its stone wings half-open as if ready to fly.

"Hello there," the sphinx rumbled kindly. "I've been waiting for someone brave enough to visit."

Lily's eyes widened. "You're real!"

"Indeed," the sphinx nodded. "But I'm lonely. My friend has been cursed to wander in circles. She's not scary at all—just very tired."

From behind the bushes emerged a zombie, but not like in movies. This was a little girl zombie with messy pigtails and a polka-dot dress, shuffling slowly and yawning.

"I'm Zara," she yawned. "The curse makes me sleepy-zombie. I can't stop walking, but I can't stay awake either."

Lily pulled out her iPhone from her pocket. Her mom had given it to her for emergencies, but she had another idea. "I have a game that might help! My little brother loves this dance game. Maybe if Zara dances, the curse will break!"

The sphinx smiled. "Wonderful thinking! Movement and joy break many old spells."

Lily played upbeat music, and Zara's feet began to tap. At first, she shuffled slowly, but as the music grew louder, something magical happened. Zara's eyes brightened, her polka-dot dress spun, and she began to dance—really dance!

"I'm awake!" Zara cheered. "The sleepiness is gone!"

The three new friends celebrated by the pool, splashing and laughing until sunset. The sphinx told stories of ancient times, Zara taught them zombie dance moves, and Lily captured every moment on her iPhone.

That night, Lily learned something important: things that seem scary might just need kindness and creativity to become friends. And sometimes, the best adventures come from the most unexpected friendships.
