The Sphinx and the Lightning Phone
Lily was hiding under her bed during the thunderstorm, playing games on her iPhone, when a brilliant flash of lightning struck right outside her window. The room filled with purple light, and suddenly her bed wasn't a bed anymore—it was a stone platform in the middle of a desert!
In front of her sat a massive sphinx, with the body of a lion and the wise face of a woman. The creature's golden eyes sparkled like tiny stars.
"Welcome, small one," the sphinx rumbled gently. "I am Seraphina, Guardian of the Riddle Gate. I have waited a thousand years for someone to bring me..." She nodded at Lily's hand. "...that glowing rectangle."
Lily looked at her iPhone. "You mean my phone? It's just for games."
Seraphina smiled mysteriously. "In my time, we had magic mirrors that could show us faraway places. Yours must be very powerful indeed."
The sphinx explained that she needed help solving a magical puzzle that had been locked for centuries—a riddle that required something from both the ancient world and the modern one.
"I can help!" Lily said bravely. "But I'm not very good at riddles."
"Friendship," Seraphina said, "is the greatest magic of all. Together, we will succeed."
The sphinx presented her riddle: "I have cities but no houses, mountains but no trees, and water but no fish. What am I?"
Lily thought hard, then remembered her geography game on her iPhone. She quickly opened it and zoomed out until she could see the whole world.
"A map!" she shouted triumphantly.
Seraphina's eyes gleamed with pride. "Correct! You have combined ancient wisdom with modern knowledge."
Another flash of lightning illuminated the sky, and a golden gate appeared. The sphinx bowed. "You have freed me, little friend. For your kindness and cleverness, I grant you one wish."
Lily thought carefully. "I wish that whenever I feel scared, I'll remember that being brave doesn't mean not being afraid—it means facing your fears with friends by your side."
Seraphina touched Lily's forehead with a warm paw. "Granted. And now, it is time for you to return home."
Lightning flashed again, and Lily was back under her bed, the storm rumbling outside. Her iPhone showed a new icon she'd never seen before—a tiny golden sphinx. Whenever she felt scared, she would touch it, and remember: true magic is the courage we find together.
