The Sphinx and the Golden Wish

Lily was exploring her grandmother's sunny garden when she discovered something extraordinary. Behind the tall **palm** tree swaying in the breeze sat a tiny stone **sphinx** no bigger than her hand. But this sphinx wasn't like the ones in her storybooks – this one had sparkly purple eyes and the friendliest smile she'd ever seen.

"Hello there," the sphinx spoke in a voice like jingling bells. "I've been waiting for someone kind enough to help me."

Lily's eyes grew wide. "You can talk?"

"I'm a magical garden sphinx," the creature explained, stretching its small stone wings. "I protect all the wonder in this garden, but I've lost my magic sparkle. I need the special sunshine **vitamin** from the old well to restore my powers."

Lily's grandmother had told her about the ancient well at the edge of the garden. She also mentioned the wise **goldfish** who lived there – a fish who had been swimming in its waters for over a hundred years.

"I'll help you!" Lily promised, her heart racing with excitement.

She ran to the well, where the golden fish with scales like sunrise was waiting. "I knew you'd come," the fish said in bubbles that popped into words. "The sunshine vitamin is yours, but only if you answer this: What makes a true friend?"

Lily thought carefully. "Someone who helps you when you're in need, and stays by your side no matter what."

The goldfish swam happily. "Correct!" A glowing orange vitamin floated to the surface.

Lily rushed back to the sphinx and fed it the vitamin. The tiny creature's purple eyes sparkled brighter than ever. Magic dust swirled around the **palm** tree, making fairy lights dance.

"Thank you, Lily," the sphinx said. "You showed that true kindness is the strongest magic of all. From now on, you'll always have a friend in me."

And every day after school, Lily would visit her sphinx friend beneath the palm tree, where they'd share stories, laughter, and the magical feeling of knowing that sometimes the smallest friends can give the biggest gifts of all.
