The Sphinx and the Golden Wish
Lily loved visiting her grandmother's pond, where three friendly goldfish swam in lazy circles. One sunny afternoon, while eating her daily vitamin, she noticed something strange—a tiny golden Sphinx was resting on a lily pad, no bigger than her thumb!
"Hello there!" the Sphinx squeaked in a voice like chimes. "I've been swimming through this pond for three hundred years, searching for someone brave enough to help me."
Lily's eyes widened. "What do you need help with?"
"My magic has grown weak," explained the Sphinx, stretching her small wings. "I need to reach the Old Oak Tree before sunset, or I'll lose my powers forever. But these water lily pads keep drifting me the wrong way!"
Without hesitation, Lily scooped up the tiny creature. "I'll help! But we'd better hurry—I see my dad running down the path, and he'll wonder why I'm talking to a lily pad."
The Sphinx guided Lily through the garden, past dancing butterflies and singing flowers. They raced against time, Lily's heart pounding with excitement. Just as the sun began to set, they reached the Old Oak Tree.
"Thank you, brave friend!" The Sphinx glowed brighter, growing to the size of a cat. "For your kindness, I grant you one wish."
Lily thought carefully. "I wish that everyone could have a magical friend like you—someone who helps them be brave and kind."
The Sphinx smiled. "That wish is already granted. Magic exists wherever friendship and courage live." With a sparkly wave, she sprinkled golden dust over Lily's three goldfish in the pond below. They immediately began glowing with tiny sphinx-like wings.
"And now," whispered the Sphinx, "you'll always have magic nearby. Just remember: the real power wasn't in my magic—it was in your brave, kind heart."
From that day on, whenever Lily faced something scary, she remembered that true magic comes from courage and kindness. And sometimes, when she visited the pond, she could still see tiny Sphinxes swimming among the goldfish, reminding her that the best adventures are the ones we share with friends.
