The Sphinx and the Golden Vitamin
Lily couldn't believe her eyes. Behind the old oak tree in her backyard, where nobody ever looked, there sat a magnificent stone sphinx. It had the body of a lion and the head of a wise pharaoh, its eyes sparkling like tiny stars.
Her golden retriever, Buster, barked happily and wagged his tail so hard his whole body wiggled. He'd found something wonderful!
The sphinx's stone lips moved. "Greetings, young adventurer," it rumbled softly. "I have waited three thousand years for someone kind enough to find me."
Lily stepped closer, trembling with excitement. "Who are you?"
"I am the Guardian of the Hidden Garden," the sphinx explained. "Long ago, I was cursed to sleep until someone with a pure heart discovered my secret."
"What secret?" Lily asked, kneeling beside Buster.
The sphinx's eyes twinkled. "In my paw, I hold the Golden Vitamin — a magical treasure that can make any garden bloom eternally. But I cannot open my paw alone. I need the help of someone brave enough to solve my riddle, and kind enough to share the gift with others."
Lily's heart beat fast. "I'll try!"
Buster licked her hand, as if saying, "You can do it!"
The sphinx smiled. "Here is my riddle: I can be cracked without being touched. I can make you cry without hurting you. I can bring people together even when they're far apart. What am I?"
Lily thought hard. She cracked her knuckles. No, that wasn't it. She thought about crying. Onion? No. Bringing people together...
Suddenly, she smiled. "A laugh!"
The sphinx roared with delight, and its stone paw opened. Inside sat a glowing orange vitamin the size of a marble.
"You are wise and kind," the sphinx said. "Plant this vitamin in any garden, and flowers will grow forever. But remember — the magic only works if you share the blossoms with others."
Lily planted the Golden Vitamin right there. Within minutes, beautiful flowers of every color burst from the ground, filling her backyard with magic and wonder.
That summer, Lily gave bouquets to everyone in her neighborhood. The garden never stopped blooming, and Lily learned that the greatest magic of all is sharing joy with others.
And sometimes, when the sun sets just right, you can still see the sphinx smiling, and Buster barking at something wonderful that only they can see.
