The Sphinx and the Golden Orange

Lily loved spending her summer days swimming in the cool, blue lake behind her house. The water felt like liquid magic against her skin, and she imagined she was a mermaid exploring an underwater kingdom.

One afternoon, while swimming near the old willow tree, something shiny caught her eye. Curious, she dove deeper and discovered a tiny creature perched on a mossy rock—a miniature sphinx no bigger than her hand, with wings like polished amber and eyes that held ancient wisdom.

"Please help me," the sphinx said in a voice like chimes. "I've traveled far from Egypt, but I've grown weak. I need the magic vitamin from the Golden Orange Tree to regain my strength and fly home."

Lily's heart swelled with determination. She knew exactly where to find such a tree—in her grandmother's secret garden, where the most extraordinary oranges grew.

She dried off and rushed to Grandma's house. The Golden Orange Tree stood in the center of the garden, its leaves shimmering like silver. One perfect orange glowed softly among the branches.

"That orange holds a special vitamin," Grandma explained. "It gives not just health, but courage and kindness to whoever eats it. But you must promise to use it wisely."

Lily nodded solemnly. She plucked the orange and carried it back to the lake, where the little sphinx waited patiently.

The sphinx took tiny bites of the orange, and as she ate, her wings began to sparkle even brighter. "Thank you," she said, her voice stronger now. "You've shown me that true magic isn't in potions or spells, but in the kindness of friends."

The sphinx flew into the sunset, leaving behind a single orange feather. Lily kept it always, a reminder that even small creatures can do big things when they help each other.

From that day on, whenever Lily went swimming, she felt a little extra magic in the water—as if the sphinx was still watching, grateful for the friendship they'd shared.
