The Sleepy Zombie's Padel Match
Lily lived next door to the most magical garden in the world. It belonged to Mr. Piñero, who grew the sweetest, juiciest papayas anyone had ever tasted. Every summer, the papayas glowed golden like tiny suns hanging from the trees.
One afternoon, Lily noticed something strange. A boy stood near the papaya tree, moving very slowly. His arms hung loose, his eyes were half-closed, and he dragged his feet with each step.
"Are you okay?" Lily called out.
"Must... find... papaya," the boy mumbled in a raspy voice. "So... sleepy..."
Lily's friend Mateo peeked over the fence. "That's not a boy! That's a zombie!" he gasped.
Lily stepped closer. The boy looked sad, not scary. His name tag said TOBY.
"What's wrong, Toby?" she asked gently.
"Lost my energy," Toby whispered. "Need magical papaya to wake up."
Mr. Piñero appeared with a smile. "Ah, young Toby! He's not a zombie at all. Just very tired from helping me in the garden all morning."
The old man handed Toby a slice of bright orange papaya. Toby's eyes popped open. He took a bite and jumped up, full of life.
"Want to play padel?" Toby asked, holding up his racquet. "I have a court in my backyard!"
Lily and Mateo had never played padel before. Toby taught them how to hit the ball against the glass walls, laughing every time someone missed. The ball went *thwack* and *bop* and sometimes *whoosh* right past their ears.
"You're not a zombie at all!" Mateo said, grinning. "You're the best padel teacher ever!"
Toby smiled. "Sometimes people seem different than they really are. I was just tired and hungry."
They played until sunset, sharing sweet papaya slices during breaks. Lily learned something important that day: things that seem scary might just need a little kindness - and maybe a delicious fruit - to show their true colors.
From then on, the three friends played padel every weekend, always with plenty of papayas nearby. And whenever someone new moved into the neighborhood, Lily remembered not to judge. After all, you never know when a "zombie" might just be a friend who hasn't had their papaya yet.
