The Sleepy Zombie's Orange Cure
Lily loved swimming more than anything. Every summer day, she splashed in the crystal-clear lake behind her house, pretending she was a mermaid exploring underwater kingdoms.
One sunny morning, something peculiar floated near the lily pads. It looked like a person, but its skin was pale green and it moved very, very slowly. A zombie! But this zombie wasn't scary like in movies. It just looked sad and tired.
"Hello," Lily said, swimming closer. "Are you okay?"
The zombie groaned softly. "So tired... haven't eaten anything good in so long."
Lily noticed something orange peeking from the zombie's pocket. An orange! But it looked shriveled and old.
"When was the last time you ate something fresh?" Lily asked.
"Three hundred years," the zombie sighed. "I've been wandering around this lake, feeling sleepy and weak."
Lily's eyes widened. "That's why! You need vitamins! My mom says vitamins give you energy and make you strong."
She remembered the orange tree in her backyard. Oranges were full of vitamin C, the best vitamin for feeling better!
"Stay right here," Lily commanded. "I'll be back!"
She swam as fast as a fish, dashed to her kitchen, and grabbed the biggest, juiciest orange from the fruit bowl. Back at the lake, she peeled it and handed the segments to the zombie.
"Eat this! It's full of magic vitamin power!"
The zombie took a bite. Its eyes widened. The pale green skin turned rosy pink. The zombie stood up straight and smiled.
"I feel... AMAZING!" the zombie cheered. "I have energy again! Thank you, thank you!"
The zombie started dancing and skipping, no longer sluggish at all. Lily laughed and joined in, swimming in circles around her new friend.
"What's your name?" Lily asked.
"Zed! And I'm going to start a garden full of orange trees so other tired zombies can find their cure too!"
Lily waved goodbye as Zed marched off, full of new energy. That night, Lily felt proud. She had learned that sometimes, the scariest-looking problems just need a little kindness and the right solution to solve them.
The next day, Lily went swimming again. And there, growing by the lake, was a tiny orange tree sapling with a note: "For my friend Lily. Love, Zed."
Lily smiled, biting into her own orange. Some adventures really were the sweetest.
