The Sleepy Zombie's Magic Game
Lily and Max loved visiting their grandmother's house on the tiny island of San Pablo. Every summer, they spent hours playing padel on the old court behind her house, laughing as they hit the ball back and forth under the warm sun.
One afternoon, while chasing a ball near the beach, they spotted something strange. A funny figure was shuffling near the old palm tree at the edge of the sand. It moved slowly, with arms stretched out, making soft groaning sounds.
"Is that... a zombie?" whispered Lily, hiding behind Max.
Max stepped forward bravely. "Hello? Are you okay?"
The figure turned around slowly. It wasn't a scary zombie at all — it was an old man with sleepy eyes, wearing a tattered old coat covered in sand.
"I'm not a zombie," the man said with a tired smile. "I'm just under a magic spell. A grumpy wizard cast it on me because I forgot to share my toys. Now I can only walk slowly and feel tired all the time."
Lily and Max looked at each other. "How can we break the spell?"
The man pointed to the padel court. "The magic of friendship and fun is stronger than any curse. But I haven't played or laughed in fifty years."
"We can help!" said Max, grabbing his padel racket. "Lily, let's teach him how to play!"
They spent the whole afternoon teaching the sleepy man to hit the ball. At first, he moved slowly and missed every shot. But as they laughed and cheered, something magical began to happen. Color returned to his cheeks. His movements became quicker. The sand on his coat turned into sparkles.
"I haven't felt this happy in decades!" the man exclaimed, hitting a perfect shot.
As the sun began to set behind the palm tree, a beautiful golden light surrounded the man. The spell was breaking! He spun around, and suddenly he wasn't old anymore — he was young again, with bright eyes and a huge smile.
"Thank you," he said, giving them both hugs. "You taught me that sharing fun and friendship breaks even the strongest curses. That's the real magic."
Every summer after that, Lily and Max visited their friend on San Pablo Island, playing padel under the palm tree and remembering that kindness and fun are the most powerful magic of all.
