The Sleepy Sphinx's Secret

Lily loved visiting her grandmother's house by the sea. Every morning, she'd run to the beach and count the palm trees swaying in the warm breeze. "One, two, three..." she'd say, tracing their trunks with her small palm.

One magical morning, Lily discovered something amazing. Behind the tallest palm tree, she found a very old sphinx! But this sphinx wasn't like the ones in her storybooks. His golden fur was covered in messy leaves, his hair was wildly tangled like a bird's nest, and he moved slower than a sleepy turtle.

"Hello there," Lily said bravely.

The sphinx yawned. "Hello, little one. I'm afraid I've been cursed to move like a zombie until someone solves my riddle. Would you like to try?"

Lily nodded excitedly! She LOVED riddles!

"I flow but cannot move," the sphinx began slowly. "I have no mouth but make rushing sounds. I give life to everything I touch. What am I?"

Lily thought hard. She looked at the sparkling blue water nearby. She watched how it moved against the shore, giving life to the fish and plants.

"Water!" Lily shouted joyfully.

The sphinx's tangled hair suddenly smoothed out! His golden fur began to shine! He stood up straight and tall.

"You did it!" the sphinx cheered, dancing around. "I can move properly again! Thank you, clever friend!"

Lily giggled as the sphinx did a happy dance. "That was fun! Can we play again tomorrow?"

"Every day!" promised the sphinx. "And I'll teach YOU my best riddles!"

That night, Lily fell asleep wondering what other magical friends might be hiding near the palm trees, just waiting for someone clever and kind to help them.

The moral: Sometimes things that seem scary or strange just need a little kindness and cleverness to become wonderful friends!
