The Sleepy Pyramid Friend
Lily loved exploring her grandmother's garden. It was full of secrets—hidden paths, sparkling streams, and flowers that changed color with the weather. But one Saturday afternoon, she found something she'd never seen before.
Behind the old oak tree, in a patch of sunlight, sat a tiny golden pyramid. It was no bigger than her shoe box, glowing softly like a captured sunset. Lily knelt down and touched its smooth surface.
"Hello?" she whispered.
The pyramid rumbled. Its top slid open, and out stretched a small green hand. Then another. A sleepy figure emerged—stiff, slow-moving, with leaves tangled in its hair. It looked like... a zombie! But not a scary zombie like in stories. This one was tiny, confused, and rubbing its eyes like it had woken up from a very long nap.
"Mmm..." it mumbled. "How many years has it been?"
"Are you... a zombie?" Lily asked, tilting her head.
"I'm Zimbi," the little creature said. "Guardian of the Orange Pyramid. I've been asleep for... oh, five hundred years? I think I missed lunch."
Lily giggled. "You've been asleep a long time!" She dug into her pocket. "I have an orange. Want it?"
Zimbi's eyes widened. "An orange? From the grove?" The zombie took the fruit carefully and took a bite. Juice dripped down its chin. "Mmmmm! That's the best thing I've ever tasted!"
"I have more," Lily said. "But you have to be my friend."
"Friends?" Zimbi smiled. "I haven't had a friend in centuries. Yes, let's be friends!"
Together, they shared oranges and stories. Zimbi told her about ancient times, when pyramids glowed and magical creatures walked openly. Lily told him about school, her dog, and her favorite games.
"Why were you asleep so long?" Lily asked.
"Waiting for someone kind," Zimbi said. "The magic chose you."
As the sun began to set, Zimbi yawned. "Time to go back to sleep, I think. But come visit anytime. Bring more oranges?"
"Every week," Lily promised. "I'll bring the sweetest ones."
Zimbi waved, then slowly climbed back into the golden pyramid. The top slid closed, and it glowed softly in the twilight.
Lily ran home, her heart full of magic. She couldn't wait for next week's adventure with her very own pyramid friend.
Sometimes the best discoveries aren't scary at all—they're just waiting for someone kind to say hello.
