The Sleepy Pool Guardian

spinachzombiepool

Lily loved her backyard pool. Every summer day, she splashed and played until her fingers wrinkled like raisins. But one evening, as the sun began to set, she noticed something strange.

Near the pool's edge, a figure shuffled slowly. It looked like a person, but its arms dangled loosely and its eyes were half-closed. It moved like a zombie from her brother's cartoons!

Lily wanted to run inside, but curiosity made her stay. She watched as the figure stumbled toward her mother's garden patch.

"Blaaah," it said, reaching for the spinach plants.

"Hey!" Lily called out bravely. "That's my mom's spinach!"

The figure jumped and turned around. Up close, Lily saw it wasn't a zombie at all – it was a boy with shimmering green skin and hair that floated as if underwater. He looked exhausted.

"I'm sorry," he whispered. "I'm Oliver, the pool guardian. I've been awake for three nights straight, watching over the pool during the full moon. The magic makes me so tired."

Lily's eyes widened. "You're MAGIC?"

Oliver nodded. "Every full moon, the pool becomes a doorway between worlds. I guard it so nothing dangerous comes through. But I'm so hungry..."

Lily remembered something. "My dad says spinach gives you super strength! Like Popeye!"

She ran to the garden and picked fresh spinach leaves. "Try this!"

Oliver took a bite. His eyes opened wide. Green sparkles danced around him. He stood up straighter, and his shimmering skin glowed brighter.

"I feel AMAZING!" Oliver laughed. "Spinach from moonlit gardens is filled with moon magic!"

He invited Lily to sit by the pool as the moon rose. The water began to glow with soft blue light. Tiny fish made of starlight swam below the surface.

"Thank you, Lily," Oliver said. "For the spinach, and for being brave instead of running away. Sometimes things look scary, but they just need a little help."

Lily smiled, dangling her feet in the magical glowing water. She had made a new friend, learned that zombies aren't always what they seem, and discovered that sometimes the bravest thing you can do is stay curious.

That night, Lily fell asleep dreaming of moonlit spinach and starlight fish, knowing that magic exists everywhere – especially in unexpected places.
