The Sleepy Phone's Dream

Lily loved swimming more than anything. Every summer day, she'd dive into the cool blue water of Lake Willow, pretending she was a mermaid exploring a secret kingdom.

One afternoon, something shiny caught her eye near the dock. An old iPhone, its screen cracked and covered in algae. Lily's mom had told her phones were "dead" when they stopped working — zombie phones, she called them, because they looked like phones but didn't do anything phone-like anymore.

Lily picked it up. Suddenly, the screen flickered with tiny golden bubbles. A message appeared: "HELLO, FRIEND. I'VE BEEN SLEEPING FOR A LONG TIME."

"You can talk?" Lily whispered, floating on her back with the phone resting on her belly like a little treasure.

"I was waiting for someone who loves swimming as much as I used to love... well, being awake," the phone replied. "I'm not a zombie anymore. You woke me up."

"What's your name?"

"Zapp. And I have magic powers now. Want to see?" The phone projected glowing ripples across the water's surface. Fish swam toward the light — a tiny school of minnows, then a curious bass, even a giant catfish.

"They like you!" Lily laughed, splashing happily.

"I promised myself that if I ever woke up, I'd help my friends," Zapp said. "The fish told me the lake is getting muddy. People throw things in the water that hurt it."

Lily's heart swelled. "We can help them!"

Every day that summer, Lily and Zapp worked together. Zapp's light guided Lily to fishing lines, bottles, and old cans trapped in the weeds. She carefully collected each piece in a mesh bag. The fish would dance around her in gratitude, shimmering like living rainbows.

On the last day of summer, Zapp grew dim. "I'm getting sleepy again, Lily. But don't worry — I'm not becoming a zombie. I'm just... resting. Dreams don't die."

Lily pressed the phone to her cheek. "Thank you, Zapp. I'll never forget you."

She gently placed Zapp in a special waterproof box on her nightstand. Some nights, tiny golden lights would flicker from inside, like a little lighthouse keeping watch over her dreams.

Years later, Lily still swam in Lake Willow. The water was crystal clear now, and the fish always gathered when she dove down. She had learned something wonderful that summer: even things that seem broken can be magical, and one kid with one sleepy phone could change the whole world.
