The Sleepy Garden Friend
Lily loved exploring her grandmother's magical garden. It had flowers that hummed soft songs and butterflies that left trails of glitter wherever they flew. But Lily felt lonely. Her brother was too busy playing video games to come outside.
One afternoon, Lily sat under the giant palm tree that swayed gently in the warm breeze. She traced patterns in the sand with her finger, wishing she had someone to share all the garden's wonders with.
"Why do you look so sad?" a voice rumbled.
Lily looked up and gasped. Standing there was the strangest creature she had ever seen. His skin was green like moss, his hair was made of tangled vines, and he moved in a slow, shuffling way. He looked like the zombie dolls her brother liked, but somehow friendlier.
"I'm not sad," Lily said. "Just lonely. I'm Lily. What's your name?"
"I'm Zimbly," the creature said, shuffling closer. "I'm the garden's zombie, but I'm not scary like in stories. I'm just slow because I carry magical seeds in my pockets. They make me heavy."
Lily laughed. "You're the most unusual friend I've ever met!"
Zimbly's leafy face brightened. "Friend? I've never had a friend before. Everyone runs away when they see me."
"They're missing out," Lily said firmly. "Can you show me the magical seeds?"
Zimbly opened his vine-covered pockets and spilled tiny glowing seeds into Lily's palm. Together, they planted them under the palm tree. Within seconds, beautiful flowers bloomed – flowers that changed color when you laughed!
"Gardens are better with friends," Zimbly said, his slow smile stretching wide.
Lily nodded, holding her palm against his leafy hand. "And friends make everything magical, even zombies."
From that day on, Lily and Zimbly had adventures every day, discovering that the best magic of all was finding friendship in the most unexpected places. Sometimes the scariest-looking things turn out to be the most wonderful friends of all.
