The Sleepy Garden Friend
Benny loved visiting his grandmother's magical garden, where sunflowers sang soft songs and butterflies left trails of glitter wherever they flew. But today, something strange shuffled between the tomato plants.
A creature with leaf-green skin and flowers sprouting from its hair walked in slow, wobbly circles. Its eyes were half-closed, and it mumbled, "Mmm... papaya..." over and over again.
"Is that a zombie?" Benny whispered, hiding behind a giant cabbage.
A rusty-orange fox with three white stripes on her tail peeked out from behind him. "That's not a zombie," said Penny the fox, who could talk because she'd once eaten a magic blueberry. "That's just a Sleepwalker! They're the kindest creatures in the garden, but they're always half-asleep."
The Sleepwalker stumbled and almost fell into a pond.
"We have to help!" Benny cried. He grabbed the nearest fruit — a bright orange papaya glowing with inner light. "Hey!" he called, waving the papaya. "Are you hungry?"
The Sleepwalker's eyes popped wide open. "Papaya!" it cheered, and suddenly moved with amazing speed to reach Benny.
As the creature ate the magical fruit, the flowers in its hair bloomed brighter, and its skin turned a warm, healthy brown. "Thank you!" said the Sleepwalker, now wide awake and smiling. "I'm Papaya, the garden's guardian. I had been walking in my sleep for three days looking for my favorite breakfast!"
Benny and Penny laughed.
"Would you like to be our friend?" Benny asked. "You can show us all the secret places in the garden."
"And I can show you where the magic berries grow!" added Penny.
Papaya beamed. "I'd love that! Being a friend means never letting someone stumble alone — especially when they're just hungry."
From that day on, every morning, Benny would bring a papaya to the garden. And together with his fox friend Penny and their new friend Papaya, they had the most magical adventures any child could ever imagine.
