The Sleepy Garden Friend
Leo loved the old swimming pool at the bottom of his garden. It hadn't held water for years, but it held something much better – magic. One Saturday morning, Leo spotted something green moving slowly among the fallen leaves at the bottom of the empty pool.
He grabbed his favorite baseball bat for courage and tiptoed closer. The green thing looked up with sleepy eyes. It was small and round, with mossy skin and vines for hair.
"Are you a zombie?" Leo asked, keeping his baseball ready just in case.
The creature blinked slowly. "I'm a Zom-bee," it buzzed softly. "I was sleeping for a hundred years under the oak tree. But now I'm awake, and I'm hungry for flowers, not brains."
Leo lowered his bat. "I'm Leo. Want to see my baseball collection?"
The Zom-bee nodded, and Leo helped his new friend climb out of the pool. They spent the afternoon playing catch in the sunshine. The Zom-bee moved slowly at first, but soon he was running and leaping, his mossy skin sparkling in the light.
"I haven't had a friend in so long," the Zom-bee said, catching a perfect pitch. "Trees are nice, but they never throw the ball back."
That evening, Leo's mom called him for dinner. He looked at his friend. "Will you be here tomorrow?"
"Every morning," the Zom-bee promised. "Right here by the pool where you found me."
Leo ran inside with the biggest smile. He had discovered something wonderful: sometimes the scariest things turn out to be the best friends, and magic can grow in the most unexpected places – even in an old empty pool.
That night, Leo dreamed of flowers and baseball games, knowing that adventures and friendship were waiting just outside his door, one sleepy magical friend at a time.
