The Sleepy Bear's Magic Papaya
Lily pushed through the tall grass until she found it—the secret pool she'd heard whispers about. It wasn't just any pool. The water sparkled like someone had sprinkled diamonds across the surface, and when Lily dipped her toe in, it felt like a warm hug.
But something wasn't right.
Beside the pool sat the biggest bear Lily had ever seen, with soft brown fur that looked like it would be perfect for snuggling. But the bear wasn't moving. His eyes were half-open, staring at nothing. He looked like a zombie bear—stuck in a sleepy trance, swaying slightly back and forth.
"Oh no," whispered Lily. She remembered what her grandmother had told her about the Forest of Forgetfulness. Sometimes, animals forgot how to be awake.
That's when Lily noticed the papaya tree. Papayas hung from its branches like glowing orange suns, each one pulsing with a soft golden light. Her grandmother's words echoed in her mind: *Papayas from the magic tree hold the most powerful vitamin in the world—the vitamin of wakefulness.*
Lily scrambled up the tree and plucked the brightest papaya she could reach. It hummed in her hands, warm and alive. She ran to the zombie bear and held the papaya to his nose.
The bear twitched. His nose twitched too.
"Wake up, Mr. Bear," Lily said softly. "This papaya has the magic vitamin you need."
The bear took a long sniff. His eyes widened. He took a bite of the papaya, then another, and suddenly—POOF! The zombie fog vanished from his eyes. They twinkled like stars.
"Oh my!" the bear rumbled in a voice like honey and thunder. "I've been stuck in that sleepy spell for one hundred years!" He wrapped Lily in the gentlest hug she'd ever felt. "You saved me, little one. That papaya was exactly what I needed."
From that day on, Lily visited the magical pool every weekend. She and her bear friend would share papayas and splash in the diamond water, and Lily learned that the best magic of all isn't found in fruit or potions—it's found in kindness and friendship.
