The Sleepwalking Zombie Detective

zombiespycablerunning

Leo was the smallest sparrow in the entire garden, but he had the biggest dreams. While other sparrows were busy finding worms, Leo wanted to be something special – a garden spy! He practiced spying on butterflies and beetles, taking notes in his tiny head about everything he saw.

One moonlit night, Leo spotted something very strange. Old Mr. Barton was walking across his backyard in a funny, stiff-legged way. His arms were straight out, and he was making soft mumbling sounds. Leo's eyes went wide. It was a zombie! At least, that's what the big kids at school called people who walked like that.

Leo watched carefully as the zombie stopped by the thick cable that ran from Mr. Barton's house to the garden shed. The cable was supposed to power the old radio that Mr. Barton used to listen to baseball games. But something was wrong. The zombie kept tripping over it!

The next morning, Leo told his best friend Pip about what he had seen. Pip was a smart little chipmunk who always had good ideas. "Maybe Mr. Barton isn't a zombie at all," Pip suggested. "Remember when he told us he sometimes sleepwalks when he's worried about something?"

That's when Leo had an idea. What if Mr. Barton was sleepwalking because he was worried about his radio not working? The two friends decided to help. While Mr. Barton was napping in his chair, Leo and Pip fixed the loose cable connection so it wouldn't trip anyone anymore.

That night, they watched from the apple tree. When Mr. Barton started sleepwalking again, he didn't trip! He walked smoothly to the shed, stood there for a moment, then turned around and walked back to bed.

"You were right!" Leo chirped quietly. "He wasn't a zombie at all. Just a worried old man who needed some friends to help him."

From that night on, Leo and Pip became the garden's best spy team. They learned that sometimes things that seem scary are really just people who need a little help. And the best spies aren't the ones who find secrets – they're the ones who find ways to help others.

Every baseball night, Mr. Barton sat by his radio with a smile, never knowing that two tiny friends had saved him from many more sleepless nights. And Leo? He was proud to be a spy, but even prouder to be a friend.
