The Sleepwalking Star

Lily loved exploring her grandmother's magical garden at dusk. Fireflies danced around the rosebushes, and the old oak tree whispered secrets in the wind. But nothing prepared her for what she found behind the pumpkin patch one summer evening.

A small figure was stumbling through the vegetables. It moved slowly, arms stretched forward, eyes half-closed. It looked like a tiny zombie, but not scary—just very, very sleepy. Its pale green skin glowed faintly in the moonlight.

Lily hid behind the tomato plants and watched. The little zombie kept walking into things: a fence post, a wheelbarrow, even a confused garden gnome. It didn't seem to notice. It just kept moving, like it was sleepwalking.

Then Lily noticed something in the zombie's hand: a wilted bunch of spinach. The creature stopped at the spinach patch, dropped the wilted leaves, and picked fresh ones. It ate the spinach slowly, and as it did, its glow grew brighter.

"You're not a zombie at all," Lily whispered, stepping out from her hiding spot. "You're a sleepwalking star!"

The tiny creature blinked. Its eyes opened wide, revealing swirling galaxies inside. "Oh dear," it said in a voice like wind chimes. "I've fallen from the sky again. Happens whenever I get too tired and forget to sparkle."

Lily giggled. "I'm Lily. What's your name?"

"Twinkle," said the star. "I was running across the Milky Way when I tripped on a comet and fell into your garden. The spinach helps me remember who I am."

"You need to get home!" Lily cried. "But you're still so sleepy."

Twinkle yawned, galaxies spinning in its eyes. "I need more spinach. Magical spinach."

Lily grabbed her hands. "Come with me!"

Together, they ran through the garden, past the silver sage and singing sunflowers, to the very back where the moon spinach grew. Its leaves shimmered with lunar light. Twinkle ate handfuls of the silvery leaves, and suddenly, it began to float.

"Thank you, Lily!" Twinkle called, rising into the night sky like a lantern. "Friends always help each other!"

Lily waved as her new friend soared upward, leaving a trail of sparkles that looked just like spinach leaves shimmering in the dark. She ran inside, already planning her next garden adventure—and always keeping a lookout for sleepy stars who needed her help.
