The Sleepwalking Sea Friend

Lily and Sam were best friends who loved going swimming in Crystal Creek. Every Saturday, they'd race to the old swimming hole beneath the willow tree, splashing and diving until their fingers wrinkled like prunes.

But today, something strange happened.

"Did you see that?" Lily whispered, treading water. Behind the mossy rocks, a green figure was lurching toward the creek. Its arms hung floppy, its walk was jerky, and it moaned, "Brraaaiiinnnsss..."

Sam's eyes went wide. "It's a zombie!"

The children scrambled onto the bank, hiding behind the willow tree. But then, they noticed something peculiar. The zombie wasn't scary — it looked confused. And instead of brains, it was holding a glowing blue seashell.

"Excuse me," Lily called out bravely. "Are you lost?"

The zombie stopped. Its green face looked sad. "I am Zog. I am not a zombie. I am a sleepwalking sea sprite from the magical kingdom below. I only look like this when I'm dreaming of swimming upstream to visit my grandmother."

Sam stepped forward. "You mean you're not going to eat our brains?"

Zog chuckled, and suddenly the scary face transformed into something friendly and kind. "I only want to share my shell collection. Look — this one sings ocean songs!" Zog held up the blue shell, and beautiful music filled the air.

Lily and Sam spent the afternoon swimming with Zog, who taught them to float like seaweed and dive like dolphins. They learned that things that seem scary at first might just be misunderstood.

"Will you come back?" Sam asked as the sun began to set.

"Every full moon," Zog promised, "when the magic is strongest. And remember — never judge someone by how they walk or how they look. True friends are found in the heart."

That night, Lily and Sam went home with their own singing shells, knowing they had made the most unusual and wonderful friend in the world.
