The Sleepwalking Guardian's Secret
Leo loved visiting Grandma's house more than anywhere in the world. Her garden was magical, with flowers that hummed and butterflies that danced in spiraling patterns. But best of all was the ancient palm tree that towered over everything, its leaves whispering secrets when the wind blew.
One full moon evening, Leo heard strange noises coming from the garden. *Scuffle. Drag. Shuffle.* His heart pounded as he peeked through the curtains. A shadowy figure was moving slowly between the flowers, arms stretched forward, groaning softly.
"A zombie!" Leo gasped. That's what his big brother called scary things in movies. Leo's friends had told stories about zombies — creatures that wandered at night, looking for... well, nobody actually knew what.
But Leo was curious too. Grandma always said, "Sometimes the scariest things just need a little kindness."
The figure shuffled closer to the palm tree, almost like it was *running* out of energy. Leo noticed something strange — the figure was leaving glowing footprints, and whenever it passed a flower, the plant would bloom brighter.
"Hello?" Leo called out softly.
The figure froze. Then, slowly, it turned. Leo gasped. It wasn't a zombie at all — it was a guardian spirit! Its body was made of moonlight and stardust, with kind eyes that shone like tiny moons.
"I've been sleepwalking again," the spirit sighed. "Every full moon, I forget my purpose and wander until I find my palm tree. Thank you for waking me."
The spirit explained that it was the garden's protector, cursed to walk in sleep until someone showed it courage and kindness. The palm tree was its home.
Leo smiled. "You're not scary. You're beautiful!"
The spirit beamed and pressed something into Leo's hand — a small palm leaf made of pure moonlight.
"Keep this," it said. "Whenever you feel afraid, it will remind you that things aren't always what they seem."
From that night on, Leo learned that sometimes, the things we fear are just friends we haven't met yet. And every full moon, he leaves flowers by the palm tree, thanking his sleepwalking guardian for teaching him the most important lesson: courage and kindness can turn fear into friendship.
