The Sleepwalking Garden Bear

Lily loved her grandmother's garden, especially the patch where bright orange marigolds danced in the wind. One warm afternoon, she spotted something peculiar — a fuzzy brown bear shuffling between the rows of vegetables.

The bear moved strangely, arms stretched forward, walking with stiff, slow steps. Lily gasped. "Is that... a zombie bear?" she whispered, hiding behind a tomato plant.

The bear wobbled to the spinach patch and began eating the leafy greens with enthusiasm. Crunch, munch, crunch! Then it lumbered toward the sparkling garden fountain, lapping up cool water with a happy sigh.

"Excuse me, Mr. Zombie Bear," Lily called out bravely. "Are you going to eat my brain?"

The bear froze. Then it sat up straight, shook its head, and blinked sleepy brown eyes. "Zombie?" the bear rumbled in a gentle voice. "Oh my, no! I'm Barnaby, and I was simply sleepwalking again! I dreamt I was at a buffet."

Lily giggled. "You're not a zombie at all!"

"Certainly not," Barnaby said, offering her a bright orange marigold. "Would you like some spinach? It's delicious when you're awake too."

From that day on, Lily and Barnaby became best friends. They learned that things aren't always what they seem — sometimes a scary zombie is just a sleepy bear having a dream, and sometimes the best friends come in the most unexpected packages.

And every afternoon, they shared snacks by the water fountain: orange carrots, fresh spinach, and stories about their wonderful adventures in the magical garden.
