The Sleepwalking Game

Lily loved the old courtyard behind her house. Every evening, she watched the moon rise over the stone walls while her cat, Mochi, chased fireflies in the golden grass.

One night, Mochi darted through a hidden gate in the wall. Lily followed, her heart pounding with excitement. The gate led to a magical courtyard where children played a strange game with small rackets under twinkling fairy lights.

"It's called padel," whispered a girl named Luna. "Would you like to play?"

But as Lily stepped onto the court, a slow-moving creature shuffled from the shadows. It was greenish and sleepy-looking, with tangled hair and a gentle smile.

"Don't worry!" Luna laughed. "That's just Zed. He's a zombie, but not the scary kind. He's enchanted to sleepwalk here every night, looking for friends to play with."

Zed waved slowly. "Play... padel... with... Zed?" he mumbled dreamily.

Mochi, being the brave cat that she was, trotted right up to Zed and rubbed against his leg. The zombie's eyes lit up with joy.

"I'll play!" Lily said, grabbing a racket. "But we need teams."

The game began under the stars. Zed moved slowly but hit the magical ball with surprising strength. Luna and Lily laughed as Mochi chased after the ball, batting it with her paws when no one was looking.

"Zed has been playing padel here for a hundred years," Luna explained as they took a break. "The spell can only be broken when someone finally chooses him as their teammate."

Lily looked at Zed, who was smiling wider than she'd ever seen a zombie smile. "He's my teammate forever," she declared.

A burst of golden sparkles filled the air. Zed's greenish faded to a healthy pink, and his eyes became bright and clear.

"I'm awake!" Zed cheered. "Thank you for being my friend."

From that night on, Lily, Luna, Mochi, and Zed played padel together in the magical courtyard, proving that kindness and friendship can break even the oldest spells.
