The Sky-Swimming Goldfish
Lily's room was magic, or at least she hoped it would be someday. Her most special treasure was Finley, a tiny goldfish with scales like sunset clouds. Finley lived in a glass bowl on her windowsill, and every night before bed, Lily would press her palm against the glass.
"Goodnight, Finley," she'd whisper. "I wish you could swim with me."
One evening, as the moon painted silver stripes across her floor, Lily's grandmother came to visit. Grandma wore skirts that swished like ocean waves and carried a jar filled with sparkling gummy candies.
"These aren't ordinary candies," Grandma whispered with a wink. "These are adventure vitamins. Each one holds a different kind of magic."
Lily's eyes widened. She picked up a glowing orange one shaped like a tiny star. "What does this one do?"
"That one's for swimming, my dear. Not in water—in dreams."
That night, Lily placed the adventure vitamin on her tongue and closed her eyes. When she opened them again, her bedroom had transformed. The walls had become endless blue sky, her bed was a fluffy cloud, and there was Finley, floating beside her with tiny translucent wings!
"Lily!" Finley chirped. "I've always wanted to go swimming in the moonlight!"
Together they soared through the star-strewn sky, past constellations that winked at them and comets that trailing glitter like fairy dust. They played tag with shooting stars and danced with the northern lights, which rippled like rainbow silk.
"This is the best adventure ever!" Finley exclaimed, doing loop-de-loops around a crescent moon.
As dawn painted the horizon pink, they floated back to Lily's window. Finley settled into his bowl, and Lily snuggled under her covers.
"Thank you for the adventure," Finley bubbled. "Real friends swim together everywhere—even in dreams."
Lily smiled, pressing her palm against the glass one last time before drifting off to sleep. She had learned something wonderful: the best adventures aren't about going far away. They're about sharing magic with the friends you love, no matter where—or how—you're swimming together.
