The Sky-High Bull

Lily had the most wild and curly hair in all of Meadowbrook Village. It bounced around her face like golden springs whenever she laughed, which was often. But her favorite thing to wear was her grandmother's old blue hat with the silver star on top.

One sunny afternoon, Lily was playing near the old cable car station when she heard a strange snorting sound. Following the noise behind the bushes, she gasped—there stood a magnificent bull with fur the color of storm clouds and enormous golden horns!

"Hello there," Lily whispered, holding out her hand. The bull didn't charge. Instead, it looked at her with the saddest brown eyes she had ever seen. "What's wrong, big friend?"

The bull let out a long, weary sigh and pointed with his nose toward the cable car wire stretching up into the clouds. Then he made swimming motions with his front hooves.

Lily's eyes went wide. "You want to swim in the Sky Lake? But bulls can't climb that high!" The bull hung his head. Then suddenly, he nudged Lily gently toward the cable car cabin.

"Wait—you want us to go together?" Lily's heart began to race with excitement. She'd always wondered where the cable car went when it disappeared into the clouds each morning.

They squeezed into the little cabin—Lily adjusted her blue hat, and the bull's curly fur brushed against her side. Up they went, higher and higher, past birds' nests and mountain peaks, until suddenly—they burst through a cloud!

Before them sparkled the most beautiful lake anyoned had ever seen, with water that shimmered in every color of the rainbow. The bull bounded out and dove straight in, swimming joyfully. He wasn't just a bull—he was a magical Sky Bull who guarded the rainbow waters!

"Will you teach me?" Lily called, rolling up her pants. The bull nodded and splashed water on her. Suddenly, she could float! They swam together for hours, playing among the clouds.

As sunset approached, the bull nudged her gently. It was time to go home. But before they left, he pressed something into her hand—a perfect rainbow crystal.

"Thank you, friend," Lily whispered, hugging his giant neck. "I'll never forget our adventure."

As the cable car descended, Lily touched her blue hat and smiled. Sometimes the most wonderful friendships come from the most unexpected places—and all you have to do is be brave enough to say hello.
