The Sky Game Zombie
Emma and Leo loved the Sky Game. Every summer afternoon, they climbed to the roof of their apartment building with their magical padel paddles — wooden paddles painted with swirling colors that could hit clouds right out of the sky.
Today, the sky was dark and stormy. Lightning flickered like giant fireflies, and the air smelled like rain and adventure.
"Look!" Leo pointed.
High above them floated a sad, gray cloud. It shuffled slowly through the sky, looking nothing like the fluffy white clouds that usually danced on summer breezes. This cloud drooped and dragged, moving in jerky little hops.
"It's a zombie cloud!" Emma gasped. She'd read about them in her Book of Magical Skies. Zombie clouds were clouds that had forgotten how to be happy. They'd lost their color and their bounce, stuck in a gray forever.
The zombie cloud looked so lonely that Emma's heart squeezed tight.
"We have to help it!" Leo cried.
Emma nodded. "We need the Lightning Game."
The Lightning Game was special — you could only play it when lightning flashed. The magical padel paddles could catch lightning and turn it into something wonderful.
CRACK! A bolt of lightning zigzagged through the dark sky.
Emma and Leo raised their paddles. The lightning bounced off Emma's padel with a cheerful DING, then hopped onto Leo's paddle, and together they hit it straight toward the zombie cloud.
The lightning wrapped around the gray cloud like a glowing blanket.
For a moment, nothing happened. Emma held her breath.
Then — POOF!
The zombie cloud transformed. It turned pink and gold and purple! It puffed up big and round and bounced happily through the sky. The cloud danced around Emma and Leo, raining tiny sparkles that landed on their noses like butterfly kisses.
"Thank you!" the cloud whispered in a voice like wind chimes. "I forgot how beautiful I could be."
Emma and Leo waved as their new friend floated away, joining the other clouds in a joyful sky dance.
"Zombie clouds just need friends," Emma said, smiling as lightning flashed in celebration.
Leo nodded. "And magic padel paddles."
